We are proud to have served as the structural engineer for this new 54,000sf school building constructed for $6M in 2002.  The structure consists of custom-fabricated structural steel trusses where space layout dictated large column-free areas; the remainder of the structure consists of conventional steel beams and joists supported on steel columns.  Lateral stability is provided by a combination of steel braces and masonry shear walls.

Our use of three-dimensional modeling during design and in the contract documents allowed us to address potential problems before they ever became problems.  This resulted in the contractor having a clear understanding of the rather complicated steel framing system that was needed to meet architectural challenges.  We believe that our 3D modeling contributed directly to the fact that bids by several contractors were remarkably consistent and within budget.  There was only one Request for Information (RFI) from the contractor with regard to structural work, and zero structural Change Orders.  We are proud that thorough design work and clear construction documents saved the owner time and money in building this important structure.

In 2006, the owner and architect again turned to PESC for the structural design of 9,600sf for additional classrooms and restrooms.
