P.E. Structural served as the structural engineer for the Toll Plazas of SH130, which include four Main Lane and fifteen Ramp Plaza pairs. Toll plazas consist of operation’s buildings with basements and connecting service tunnels, canopies over toll booths, and collection equipment/sign gantries over express lanes.
PESC engineers developed a modular concept for SH130’s toll facility components that is easily expandable for future construction and that enables the contractor to utilize identical components throughout the project to capitalize on economies of scale. PESC team members also developed a concept to construct toll gantries using standard TxDOT sign bridge trusses and similarly constructed connecting trusses, aesthetic concrete columns and precast enclosures. The constructability and adaptability of this concept has resulted in it being adopted for several subsequent toll projects. The use of 3D modeling and rendering was key in both the aesthetic development and the structural design of the facilities.
P.E. Structural also designed the Express Toll Gantries for the 183A Toll Road Project, and is currently working on the design of the Toll Gantries for US290E Manor Expressway.
