Commonly called “Pan Girders,” Concrete Slab and Girder type construction can provide an economical choice for short span bridge replacements for off-system structures. In addition, the prolific use of this type of construction along Texas’ rural routes over the last several decades has resulted in a need to continue its use for widening of existing structures.
Originally developed and board drafted in the 1950’s, the original drawings had been modified over the years, but had not been available in electronic form. PESC provided services to the TxDOT Bridge Division to update and produce graphic standards for publication on the TxDOT website, where they can be downloaded by consultants and Districts for statewide use.
