P.E. Structural Consultants, Inc. provided structural and aesthetic design for the phased replacement of an existing 1949 slab bridge that carried RM12 over Cypress Creek in the Village of Wimberley. This is a semi-urban street and a critical pedestrian and commercial route. The new structure provides additional capacity with a turn lane into the nearby town square, improves flood conditions, provides enhanced pedestrian access and includes aesthetic enhancements to reflect the historic and natural beauty of the site.
Phased design maintained two lanes of traffic and pedestrian crossing throughout construction. Prestressed concrete slab beams worked well with the staged construction and aesthetic details and provided a thin superstructure for hydraulic clearance. Aesthetics for this project used a mix of standard and custom elements and other simple concrete forming techniques (bent formwork reveals, form-liner finishes, custom pedestrian rails, etc.). P.E. Structural worked closely with TxDOT and the Wimberley community to develop functional and aesthetic goals for the structure, participating in several public meetings. $3.5M Construction. Completed 2006.
