This 6.2-mile limited-access Toll Road with 3 lanes in each direction extends from US 183 to Parmer Lane. As a sub-consultant to three Prime firms (LJA, KCI and Jacobs), PESC had various roles during the original stage of the project. PESC led a corridor-wide effort for aesthetic design of bridges, walls, sign structures and toll gantries. For (original) Segments 1 and 2, PESC provided structural design for aesthetic sign supports and gantries and worked with the structural design teams to integrate the aesthetic features into the bridge and wall plans. PESC also led the structural design for (original) Segment 3 for all bridges, walls, signs and gantries.
Design of Phase 1 (original Segment 1) – the direct connect flyover interchange at US 183 and US 290 and 1.4-mile stretch of Expressway between US 183 and Chimney Hill Blvd – is complete and construction of the $53M interchange is underway; PESC is providing construction phase services.
The design for Segments 2 and 3 was carried to 60% completion under the original contracts, and the project is currently continuing under a CDA Design/Build Contract with the CTRMA (aka Phase 2 – extension of the Expressway to just east of Parmer Lane).
PESC is providing bridge layout production, design and detailing for the Design-Build team (as sub to engineering prime Michael Baker Jr., Inc.) for the following bridges: ML over Parmer Lane, WBFR over Gilleland Creek Trib 1C, ML over Gilleland Creek Trib 1C, EBFR Bridge Gilleland Creek Trib 1C, and EBFR over Gilleland Creek. Bridges consist of prestressed concreteI-girder superstructures, and standard as well as aesthetic reinforced concrete bent caps and columns.
