Key Features:

  • Value Engineering
  • Precast Concrete U-Beams

P.E. Structural was Morganti’s Prime Consultant for a Value Engineering effort at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.  P.E. Structural performed a feasibility analysis and ultimately redesigned the 1,400 ft-long, 17-span bridge that serves the upper level of the terminal building.

Really a meld of both building and bridge, this unique structure mandated special considerations for architectural character and pedestrian appeal, illumination, water control, and the support of numerous building elements on the bridge.

3-D CADD modeling, photo realistic renderings and video animation were used to aid visualization of the value-engineered structure for the owner and the owner’s representatives.

PESC utilized TxDOT’s newly developed precast concrete U-Beam sections in an innovative way to provide an aesthetically enhanced structure to replace the original design (a cast-in-place multi-celled box girder).  The new PESC design yielded an aesthetically enhanced structure at a substantial savings in cost and construction time.
